Trang,
located on the Andaman coast, is inviting tourists to come and admire its
attractions and the unique lifestyle of this province which has a sizable
Chinese population.
The provincial chamber of commerce has designated August and September as
tourism months. As such, guided tours dubbed "Culture and the Trang Way" are
being offered that allow visitors to explore caves, Chinese shrines, rubber
plantations and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery along the coast.
Conceived as lifestyle tours, they show visitors how latex is extracted
from trees, how Muslim and Buddhist cultures co-exist peacefully
side-by-side, and what people there do for a living. Visitors get to sample
the local cuisine, especially the famous cakes of Trang, and visit religious
sites, particularly shrines dedicated to Chinese goddesses.
The Tham Lay Khao Gop cave is a short boat ride from the provincial
centre. It has fascinating limestone formations. Tours to the cave are
available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
